The Board of Lucas County Commissioners announces
the establishment of on-line auctions to sell surplus items no longer
needed by county government agencies. Commissioners have selected GovDeals
(www.govdeals.com ), a unique and state-of-the-art online auction service to conduct periodic online sales of their surplus property.
Interested bidders can log onto the Lucas County
website at www.co.lucas.oh.us and click on the “County Auctions” icon. An instruction sheet will appear, which will guide potential bidders on how to use the site. From there, bidders can directly access the GovDeals Lucas County web page where potential bidders can view photos and descriptions of each item 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Appointments can also be made with the appropriate Lucas County personnel to inspect the items.
The GovDeals website clearly spells out the terms and conditions of each item to be auctioned. All items are sold “as-is”, “where-is”, and must be picked up and payment received within a specified time frame.
Online auctions are expected to replace traditional on-site auctions held annually in Lucas County. Other Ohio counties currently using online auctions include Montgomery and Lorain Counties. The idea behind on-line auctions is to allow bidders convenient and immediate access to view items available for auction, and allow more citizens to participate. Bidders can obtain surplus items at significant savings, while the Board of Lucas County Commissioners is able to maximize revenues for county taxpayers. Potential bidders who may not have a home computer can access the website at no charge through computers at any of the branches of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library.
